چکیده

This paper investigates the maximal secret communication rate over a wiretap channel subject to reliability and secrecy constraints at a given blocklength. New achievability and converse bounds are derived, which are uniformly tighter than existing bounds, and lead to the tightest bounds on the second-order coding rate for discrete memoryless and Gaussian wiretap channels. The exact secondorder coding rate is established for semi-deterministic wiretap channels, which characterizes the optimal tradeoff between reliability and secrecy in the finite-blocklength regime. Underlying our achievability bounds are two new privacy amplification results, which not only refine the existing results, but also achieve stronger notions of secrecy.

Wiretap and Gelfand-Pinsker Channels Analogy and its Applications

A framework of analogy between wiretap channels (WTCs) and state-dependent point-to-point channels with noncausal encoder channel state information (referred to as Gelfand-Pinker channels (GPCs)) is proposed. A good (reliable and secure) sequence of wiretap codes is shown to induce a good (reliable) sequence of codes for a corresponding GPC. Consequently, the framework enables exploiting existi...

Lossy data compression: nonasymptotic fundamental limits

The basic tradeoff in lossy compression is that between the compression ratio (rate) and the fidelity of reproduction of the object that is compressed. Traditional (asymptotic) information theory seeks to describe the optimum tradeoff between rate and fidelity achievable in the limit of infinite length of the source block to be compressed. A perennial question in information theory is how relev...

Message Authentication over Noisy Channels

The essence of authentication is the transmission of unique and irreproducible information. In this paper, the authentication becomes a problem of the secure transmission of the secret key over noisy channels. A general analysis and design framework for message authentication is presented based on the results of Wyner’s wiretap channel. Impersonation and substitution attacks are primarily inves...

On the application of LDPC codes to a novel wiretap channel inspired by quantum key distribution

With the advent of quantum key distribution (QKD) systems, perfect (i.e. information-theoretic) security can now be achieved for distribution of a cryptographic key. QKD systems and similar protocols use classical errorcorrecting codes for both error correction (for the honest parties to correct errors) and privacy amplification (to make an eavesdropper fully ignorant). From a coding perspectiv...

Reliability and Security Functions of the Wiretap Channel under Cost Constraint

The wiretap channel has been devised and studied first by Wyner, and subsequently extended to the case with non-degraded general wiretap channels by Csiszár and Körner. Focusing mainly on the Poisson wiretap channel with cost constraint, we newly introduce the notion of reliability and security functions as a fundamental tool to analyze and/or design the performance of an efficient wiretap chan...
